STICKY Europe 2008!

by nmanerikar @ 10 Sep. 2008 - 19:18:39

Welcome aboard. I am back on the road, and I will be travelling for a bit in the next three weeks. Armed with a nice netbook (the Acer Aspire One), I am trying to post daily on this new blog. Will be pictures, mostly. At least that is the idea currently.

Back in Edinburgh, and it feels good to be home. Back to where they drive on the correct side of the road! This blog will now hibernate until I pack my bags for another jaunt to somewhere. Hopefully, I will now go back to writing regularly at my other blog - http://nishadwrites.blog.co.uk

Last day of the trip. Brilliant weather continued to grace Prague, and I am in love with this city.

The sun was out at last! A sunny day in Prague, which allowed us to walk around all day long.

Vienna - 2

by nmanerikar @ 23 Sep. 2008 - 20:47:58

Spent the first half of the day in Donau City - a part of Vienna that lies on an island in the Donau (Danube). It is a very pretty place, away from the tourists and a welcome change from the artistic buildings, churches and plazas of old Vienna. It has a large park called Donau park, with a very tall tower - the Donauturm.

Bratislava

by nmanerikar @ 22 Sep. 2008 - 18:40:06

Day trip to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia today. It is just an hour by train from Vienna, and lies very close to the Austrian and Hungarian borders. It is a very pretty city that grows on you as you explore it.

View from the castle: river Danube (Dunaj is the local name), and the bridge Novy Most over it with the observation tower

Views of Bratislava from the observation tower. This tower has an astonishingly strong pair of binoculars at the top. This is also the first view-point that I have ever seen where you can use the binoculars/telescope for free. First photograph shows the castle, the second one shows the part of the city around the historic city centre

Arrived in Vienna today and will be staying here for three nights. Vienna is a beautiful city with grand buildings that manage to be incredibly pretty at the same time.

Munich - Oktoberfest 2008

by nmanerikar @ 21 Sep. 2008 - 19:40:47

20 September, 2008

Today was the opening day of the Oktoberfest 2008. Ironically, I missed the opening ceremony on account of getting drunk the previous night and waking up late. Went there around noon, and it was a lot of fun.
